 | Welcome | Apr 16, 2006 |
I'll be keeping a public face to the world here, so come and check in to see what I'm up to. I promise photos, news, commentary, and general blether like that. Please post a reply if you see something you like or just want to get in touch - I always love to hear from people!
| | After attending a wedding in Yorkshire, we took the opportunity to pop over to the most visited National Trust property in England. It's not hard to see why - beautiful grounds, and enourmous too, so it would be hard to feel crowded here even if there were loads of people. |
| | Two beautiful wintery walks in Scotland - the first is straight out of Torphichen, where Marga's family live. The second is up by Castle Campbell near Dollar .. it didn't end up being the walk that we had intended, and you will see why! |
| | Another two National Trust properties, this time both visited during a stay with my sister and brother-in-law in Sussex. Bodiam Castle is a 'castle proper', as you can see! And Bateman's is a really spectacular place - both come with very high recommendations from me! |
| | Two National Trust properties that I visited recently - both birthday trips. Eastbury Manor House in London, on my actual birthday - and Cragside in Northumberland while visiting my folks shortly after my birthday. |
| | Don't for a moment think that this is anything near the number of photos I took in total ... just thank your lucky stars I am not subjecting you to the whole lot! |
| | OK, so it's taken a while to get these photos up .. but then again, there's a lot of 'em so it took a good while to upload them all! That said, there are so many because I had such a great time looking round the islands and admiring the flower festival decorations in the Old Town of Cannes. |
| | What's that I hear you say - you went to Kew, and took photos of everything except flowers? Well .... not quite, as it happens. Here comes the flora! I'll confess to not knowing the names of ANY of these wonderful specimens, so I can't actually title any of these. But they still look good. |

Many lenders are advertising credit products illegally on Facebook, by failing to display their APRs - which can sometimes be as high as 22,000% (yes, that's not a typo!) Check out the Facebook group "Debt can seriously cramp your style" to see how YOU can help stamp out the illegal credit advertising! Or check out the NEWS section of Credit Action's website for full details and an "Ad-spotter's guide"! http://www.creditaction.org.uk/news.html(N.B. If you're not in the UK, this probably doesn't apply to you since you won't see the UK ads that this campaign refers to - and your ads won't come under UK law)
Disconnected Thought No.1 So, BoJo is mayor of London. It's not a pretty thought. I was listening to Paradise Lost on the way in to work on Friday, as the local election results were being coming in, and some words floated across my consciousness that seemed strangely ominous. "Yet not so strictly hath our Lord imposed Labour, as to debar us when we need Refreshment" And how apt those words turned out to be. Although I would have to say, I would prefer it if our Lord did impose a bit more Labour, as I suspect that the new presence of a BNP councillor on the London Assembly will be far from refreshing. Disconnected Thought no.2 The case of the Washington call-girl ring was in the news again today, as one of the women hanged herself rather than face prison. The second woman involved to take her own life in the aftermath. It set me wondering how it is that the men involved in this have largely done no more than make a few apologies to the press, and got on with their lives (only one even went so far as to resign), whilst women who were involved are facing prison and taking their own lives. Disconnected Thought no.3 I'm sure there was one, but it seems to have drifted off into the ether for the time being. Never mind!
